Freedom Through Structure
Have you ever said, “I wish I had more time” or maybe “There’s just not enough time in the day.” Well, I've been there and the truth is we all get the same 24 hours in a day.
Until, I figure out how to get more of them, I had to figure out how to make the most of the 24 I was getting.
Here’s the thing, I was overwhelmed by everything that was going on. So much so, my head was spinning and at times I felt like I couldn’t breathe. Sounds dramatic, I know, but it’s true.
I was getting pulled in so many directions. A boss who always had a “hair on fire” approach, family demands, friends, and me – it felt like a cycle of overwhelm and guilt because something was always getting neglected. Most of the time it was me, other times it was friends and family.
I would always tell myself I would do better next time and usually failed. Can you relate? Are you feeling stressed out or overwhelmed by a long to-do list? Are you getting pulled in a lot of different directions? Would you rather feel productive, present, and at peace with your time?
The solution was really counterintuitive – kinda like learning that you have to eat more to lose weight (I’m not talking about French fries).
I discovered the more I structured my day, set boundaries on my calendar for specific things, and kept my focus, the more settled my life became. I was no less busy, in some cases, I was even busier than before, but I no longer felt that chaos that goes with overwhelm and stress.
After some refinements, I was able to remove chaos and be more productive at work, take care of myself (this remains a challenge at times) spend high-quality time with my family and friends – guilt-free. I had nothing preoccupying my mind or that voice in the back of my head whispering... You're neglecting something on your to-do list.
I became more productive than I thought possible, present in all that I did and got an overall sense of peace in my life. I am sharing the keys I learned in hopes that you will be able to win back your week.
